From January 2024 to January 2025, residential solar installations in the UK exceeded 200,000 units, with an additional 22,667 energy storage systems deployed.
As of February 2025, the UK’s total solar installed capacity surpassed 18 GW, covering 1.735 million PV systems, reflecting a 6.8% year-on-year increase, with 1.1 GW of newly added capacity.
The solar installation structure shows a clear divergence. While residential PV systems account for 73% of total installations, they contribute only 30% of the total capacity. In contrast, ground-mounted solar farms make up 43% of the installed capacity (55% including unregistered projects), serving as a major power source.
In 2024, residential solar installation costs saw a significant decline, averaging £8,198 for the year. By December, the cost had dropped 18% from January’s £9,238 to £7,561. The combination of policy support and decreasing costs has accelerated the adoption of residential solar, highlighting the growing potential of distributed PV. Of the 2.3 GW of newly installed capacity in 2024, residential and commercial rooftop projects each accounted for 20%.
Advancements in energy storage technology and cost reductions are creating new growth opportunities for the UK solar market. Amensolar specializes in residential solar inverters and energy storage batteries, offering efficient and secure PV storage solutions. Its 12kW inverter delivers high conversion efficiency and smart management features, while the 100Ah and 200Ah storage batteries ensure energy independence and cost savings for households and small businesses.
